My new artwork for Paseo Gallery (One October Through December) Forest With Native American Blankets and hummingbirds.

Leslie Dallam September 22, 2018

Having read the family tree this summer I found the information about my great grandmother on my mom’s side. She was a full blood Cherokee Indian. My thoughts on this series with “Blanketed In Warmth” is to bring in my version of Native American blanket designs as part my forest series.

Hares

Leslie Dallam June 6, 2018

I made this series with hares, poppies and pine like trees. I kept my forest in the background of my hare pictures. I added different shades of red poppies with blue or violet centers. My hares have a whimsical look with exaggerated ears and eyes. I made this series with mixed media which included recycled magazine paper and gum wrappers, watercolor and acrylic paint. I added playful birds as if they were telling the hares a secret. I used bright vivid colors and very soft colors to achieved the images in each image.

Ornamental Forest

Leslie Dallam June 6, 2018

This new series is based off of a story about the Willamette National Forest. Two hundred glass Christmas tree ornaments will be hidden along non-wilderness trails for adventurers to find. My forest have been a series I stated a little over a year ago. The idea came from the many trips to Buena Vista Colorado over the last thirty years. My family and I would take our jeep up past the tree line on trails only a four wheel vehicle could travel on. The forest was absolutely stunning as well as the views. I have made many forest pictures all with different ideas. I use mixed media in my forest and my trees are primarily made from recycled magazines and the background is watercolor. I hope my forest will bring you an enchanted view and a peaceful feeling.

Traveling Through The Poppies In My VW Bus

Leslie Dallam April 15, 2018

I have always been intrigued by the retro Volkswagen bus especially in pink. I think of them as an icon. I plant poppies and take photographs of them every summer. My idea was to combine the wagen and the poppies with a pine tree or trees to make the picture. I used recycled magazine paper to make the pine tree in this piece and recycled gum wrappers to make the wheels. The poppies, sky and swirls are watercolor. The wagen is acrylic. I am having a lot of fun making the VW wagen pictures. This piece is in my shop.

Orange Is The new Green

I wanted to share why I made this piece of art. I read an article about how a Costa Rica forest was revived. I recently thought I would like to take the information and make a piece of art that expressed my thoughts about the Costa Rica forest. I used watercolors and build up many layers of color. I worked with orange as my main color. I used found objects that were circular and printed the images into my background. I wanted my background to look circular and have an orange peel texture. I uses stencils for the main words of the article to emphasis the information about the forest. I added trees that I cut out of recycled National Geographic magazines. I wanted the trees to blend in with the background and chose subtle colors. I inked around most of the shapes with white ink. The last step was adding recycled gum wrappers to add a touch of sheen.

The beginning of Land Formations: I tear white 300 pound rag paper by hand. I build it up layer by layer until I have four to six layers on top of each formation. I then put many layers of watercolor on the formations until I have the colors I like. I use black ink and outline all of the hand torn paper until all of the formations are inked. I used white ink to highlight pieces of the formations.

I hand tear tear BFK Rives paper. I start building the image with many tiny pieces of the hand torn paper and I glue them on top of each other to create a 3-d image. I then hand paint the piece the piece with colors I select.
